What makes Longford special?

- High expectations and positive academic outcomes for our pupils (our progress measures for each subject at the end of KS2 are consistently positive).

- A wonderful learning environment and small class sizes – just visit to see for yourselves!

- Our school values are very important to us and so each week, we have a ‘Sparkler Assembly’ where the children nominate one another for displaying these values.

- We are very proud of our global curriculum. We cover a range of themes (such as identify & diversity and social justice) and topics across school, with the aim of developing our children’s understanding of the world around them. As soon as you walk into school and speak to our children, you will see for yourselves just how diverse and engaging our curriculum is!

- We love reading! We have a brilliant range of current books across school, which is constantly updated – you can be sure to always find some of Waterstones’ current ‘top picks’ in our collection!

- We have plenty of transition opportunities for children who will be joining our school. This includes half-termly ‘Longford Little Ones’ sessions in the academic year before your child is due to start with us, followed by two half and one full day of transition in the summer term. For any children who wish to join us in other year groups, we offer taster days, where your child can experience a day at Longford.

- At Longford, We are a family and create a nurturing environment for all. Staff focus on getting to know each child and building positive relationships (with the children, parents and one another).

- We like to bring the children’s learning to life as much as possible and so regulalry plan in trips and workshops to support curriculum learning. Recent examples include Jorvik, the RAF museum and Bletchley Park.

- We make sure to plan calendar of important celebrations each year so that we can celebrate important events across the year – examples include Back History Month, Mental Health Awareness Month, Windrush Day, Pride Month and Science Week.

- We have recently enhanced our outdoor learning environments and so as well as having the use of a big field behind school, we also have an outdoor learning area in our neighbour’s orchard.

- We have our own wellbeing lead, who develops a positive culture around mental health within school, highlighting the importance of talking about how we feel. Drop in sessions are available for children who would like to share any worries they may have.

- We have strong links with both QEGS and Primary Stars, ensuring that each term, all children can take part in a sports event outside of school.
