FPTA Welcome Letter - September 2018

Dear Friends & Parents of Longford Church of England Primary School

As the newly elected FPTA we would like to welcome our new families and say a big thank you to our current parents for all their help in raising over £6,000 last year. This will be used to provide the school with new maths equipment, upgrading the reading book stock and replacement dictionaries, along with continuing to support development group plans for the children and providing a set of high visibility vests to use on local walks. This has been made possible thanks to your incredible support and generosity, and helps the school to make the most of its resources to provide an excellent service to the community.

We are fortunate at Longford to have an FPTA that is and has been an integral part of the school community for many years. Over the years it has raised thousands of pounds which has been spent on equipment & resources that enhance our children’s education and experience at school. The interactive screens and iPads which have been purchased with money raised from FPTA supported events are just a few examples of the creative and inclusive approach to education taken by Longford Primary. It goes without saying that not all schools have the same equipment available to them in supporting children’s development. Without your help it simply would not have been possible to support the school this way.

But as we are sure you all know, the FPTA is not simply about fundraising, as important as that is. It exists to provide closer links between home and school, and represents the best opportunity to bring staff, parents and children together. It is, in our view, a key component in bringing together and maintaining our community, as well as supporting the school and developing and strengthening relationships.

We realise that putting on events takes time and effort. We all lead busy lives, and we know that time is more valuable than ever, but in our time with the FPTA, we have found that the most rewarding experiences have been when working with you, as parents, to achieve common goals.  As such, we would welcome you to be involved, and share your ideas as to how we can make the most of our time and resources. We meet regularly to plan the forthcoming events & always welcome new faces.

With this in mind we would like to tell you about a new opportunity for communicating with each other through a new application called Classlist. It is a bespoke, purpose-built website just for parents & PTA’s. As convenient as email can be, our feedback has been that it is easy to feel as if you are bombarded with messages and we hope that this might be an opportunity to create our own space and forum to advertise

Forthcoming FPTA events, organise volunteers, classifieds, newsletters & messaging each other, and to make payments for events like the Disco. Please feel free to explore the link below. As with many such applications, it works more effectively the more people are registered with it but we would really welcome your feedback and any other ideas that you may have.

A few things to mention: You add as much or as little information as you want. It is a secure website, only those parents registered can see the information. Two FPTA parents verify your details before you are added.

We hope you enjoy using it. If you have any questions just get in touch. For parents who are not online we will continue to use the message board at school to advertise events as well as The Clock.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
