It gives us great pleasure to welcome you to our website. We are very proud of our school, our children and their successes. We believe that Longford is an extremely special place, with excellent relationships between children and adults and amongst the children themselves.
The school community shares united pride in the caring, supportive and friendly atmosphere, which is something that is frequently commented upon by visitors. Caring for each other is something that runs through the whole school like letters through a stick of rock, and we do things in our own special way. For example we are extremely proud of our unique mutual reward system where each week the whole school community shares in recognising each other’s learning, successes and the demonstration of the values we hold dear.
At Longford we pride ourselves on knowing every child as an individual and most importantly, ensuring that they know that we know them, care for them and understand them. This ethos helps to provide a secure childhood and a culture in which children can grow, learn, play, feel safe and be encouraged to take risks, make mistakes and try new things. When the conditions for learning are right, children can blossom and flourish with confidence.
Children being inspired by learning and having the freedom to be creative is at the heart of our curriculum. We place a strong emphasis on the basic foundations which provide the steps on which to build and ensure children know why these are important. Alongside this we use what we know of the children’s interests to plan topics that will motivate and inspire them each topic having a high quality text at its heart to ensure children are surrounded by a rich language on which to draw. We believe learning, FUN and laughter go together hand in hand!
Our school mission statement is inspired by our lovely original clock (Circa 1875) and summarises our view on what a school life is all about:
‘Time to learn, Time to care, Time for Fun’.
To get the feel for the type of events and activities that we provide for children on a weekly basis, take a look at the school’s weekly magazine ‘The Clock’.
We encourage parents to become part of the family of our school, helping during learning sessions if they can or becoming involved in events organised by our Friends, Parents and Teachers Association.
Children are intrinsic to the running of the school and the way in which it grows. We achieve this through various specific committees like ‘Lunch Bunch’, ‘ECO committee’, ‘Playground Team’ (to name but a few) as well as through the general open ethos of the school itself.

It is our opinion however that the only way to really experience what a special place Longford is to visit, and we warmly invite you to telephone to arrange a time to come to meet us and share in the Longford ‘Magic’. We were visited in 2015, at our invitation, by an educational consultant, a current Ofsted Inspector, who after spending the morning with us exclaimed with delight “Longford just gets under your skin”.
